National Grid

Transforming our energy networks in the UK and US to meet the energy future.

From the lights, heating, fridges and screens in your home to the computers, tools and machines that drive your business, we keep your energy flowing. The reliability and resilience of our network is our backbone.

But our work isn’t just about upgrading infrastructure. It creates opportunity. We’re fueling new jobs, powering economic growth and helping our communities thrive. And we’re doing it with new ideas and technologies to keep pace with the demands of life and unlock the future of energy for our customers.

Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks

The electricity Distribution Network Operator (DNO) responsible for delivering power to over 3.9 million homes and businesses across central southern England and the north of Scotland. Serving some of the most diverse and unique geographies across the UK, and keep customers and communities connected whilst developing the flexible electricity network vital to achieving net zero.

SP Energy Networks

Own and operate the electricity transmission and distribution networks for central and southern Scotland, as well as Merseyside, Cheshire, and North Wales. Responsible for delivering electricity from the national grid to homes and businesses, maintaining and upgrading infrastructure, and ensuring a safe, reliable, and sustainable power supply.

National Grid Electricity Distribution

We own and maintain the electricity distribution network across the Midlands, South West England, and South Wales — including hundreds of thousands of kilometres of cables, overhead lines, and substations — ensuring power is delivered reliably, safely, and efficiently to nearly eight million homes and businesses.

Our priorities are to tackle the climate crisis by enabling the rapid roll-out of low-carbon technologies and connecting renewable energy, electric vehicles, heat pumps, and battery storage. We are modernising and reinforcing our network to meet changing customer needs, improving the services we deliver, and ensuring customers receive support when they are in vulnerable circumstances.

UK Power Networks

Own and maintain electricity cables and lines across London, the South East and East of England and make sure power flows reliably, safely, and securely.

Our priorities are to tackle the climate crisis by connecting renewable energy, electric car chargers and low carbon heating, meet our customers evolving needs by improving our services, support our customers in vulnerable circumstances and go above and beyond for the communities we serve.

Northern Powergrid

Electricity Distribution Network Operator for the North East, Yorkshire, and northern Lincolnshire, delivering power to 3.9 million homes and businesses. Maintain and operate over 60,000 substations and 60,000 miles of cables and lines, ensuring safe and reliable electricity 24/7.

Investing in smart networks to support renewables, electric vehicles, and the low-carbon transition.

National Electricity System Operator

National Energy System Operator (NESO) keeps the Great Britain’s electricity system balanced, secure, and efficient in real time, ensuring supply meets demand every second. We play a critical role in enabling the clean-energy transition by developing and running smart markets, integrating storage, interconnectors and flexibility services, and helping connect new low-carbon generation. On the strategic side, we provide insight and long-term planning across electricity and gas, advising government and regulators on how to build a resilient, affordable, net-zero energy system. Our mission centers on delivering energy security, supporting innovation, and driving the transition to a greener, smarter future.

National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority

NISTA’s unites long-term strategy with best-practice project delivery to transform UK major projects and programmes. It does this through its oversight of the implementation of the 10-Year Infrastructure Strategy and the Infrastructure Pipeline, identifying and co-ordinating the country’s long-term infrastructure needs and also developing a more spatial approach to infrastructure planning. NISTA’s expert team help to unblock barriers and streamline the delivery of government’s major projects, including through providing effective assurance for the Government Major Projects Portfolio (GMPP). It also offers government advice on its approach to the private financing of major projects and, through its leadership of the project management profession, sets standards and builds best-practice capabilities across departments. NISTA’s work is supported by a Council of Expert Advisers, which provides impartial and expert advice to ministers and NISTA’s senior leadership team on both infrastructure policy and individual projects.
